Prevention Education Programs

Let’s Stop Problems Before They Exist

Our Voice offers a variety of innovative educational programs pursuing our mission of creating a community free from sexual violence and human trafficking. Each program is evidence-informed and based in current best practices for maximum impact and designed to reach a broad range of populations throughout Buncombe, McDowell, and Transylvania Counties.

Community Programs

Providing training to businesses and groups empowers community members to become better advocates for public safety at all levels. Together we can confront sexual misconduct and reduce violence to make our community healthier. Read on below to learn more about Community Programs.  For more information, or to register for a program, please fill out a program request form 

Program Cost:

  • $300 for a 2-hour presentation (virtual or in-person) for up to 25 participants
  • Additional fee of $150 for training longer than 2 hours and/or more than 35 participants
  • Bar Outreach Project Curriculum Package: $500

Bar Outreach Project: Preventing Drug Facilitated Sexual Assault (Bars)
The Bar Outreach Project is a training designed for staff and management in alcohol-serving establishments. The program focuses on preventing drug-facilitated sexual assault by helping staff recognize warning signs and understand how impairment affects consent.

Participants learn practical bystander intervention strategies and ways to create safer environments for patrons and coworkers. The training also encourages dialogue around alcohol culture and accountability in nightlife spaces. Bars and restaurants leave with tools to actively promote safety and reduce harm.

 

Bar Outreach Project: Train the Trainer (Rape Crisis Centers Only)
This program prepares organizations to implement the Bar Outreach Project in their own communities. Participants receive a comprehensive walkthrough of the curriculum, facilitation guidance, and hands-on practice leading trainings.

The Train-the-Trainer model supports organizations in building relationships with local businesses and coordinating volunteers. It also includes follow-up consultation to help adapt the program to local needs. This training strengthens community-wide prevention efforts and long-term sustainability.

 

Consent is Everything
This training helps adult community members understand consent and boundaries in everyday life. Participants explore how consent applies to personal, professional, and community relationships.

The program addresses sexual violence prevention by emphasizing communication, respect, and accountability. Participants also learn how to advocate for others and respond appropriately when harm occurs. The training supports the creation of safer, more respectful communities.

 

Our Voice 101
Our Voice 101 introduces participants to the full range of services provided by Our Voice. The training explains how survivors can access support and what services are available, as well as what falls outside the organization’s scope. Participants learn how to make appropriate referrals and support survivors effectively. The program also highlights trauma-informed approaches and collaboration. This training strengthens partnerships and community knowledge.

 

Serving Teens of Sexual Violence (Caregivers)
This training supports caregivers and professionals who work with teens impacted by sexual violence. Participants learn how trauma affects adolescents differently than adults and how to respond in developmentally appropriate ways.

The program covers signs of abuse, trauma responses, and survivor-centered support strategies. Emphasis is placed on choice, safety, and empowerment. Participants also learn how to connect teens with appropriate resources.

 

86 it: Sexual Harassment in the Restaurant Industry
This training addresses sexual harassment and power dynamics within the restaurant and hospitality industry. Staff learn how harassment shows up in customer, coworker, and management interactions.

The program emphasizes boundary-setting, consent, and bystander intervention through realistic scenarios. Participants also learn how to support coworkers and contribute to a safer workplace culture. The training helps reduce harm and increase accountability.

 

86 it: Train the Trainer
This program prepares organizations to independently deliver 86 It trainings to staff and management. Participants receive access to the curriculum, facilitation guidance, and opportunities to practice delivering content.

The training supports adaptation to different organizational or community contexts. Follow-up consultation helps ensure effective implementation. This program builds internal capacity for prevention.

 

Bystander Intervention
This interactive workshop teaches community members how to safely intervene when witnessing harassment or sexual violence. Participants learn how consent, boundaries, and power dynamics influence harmful behavior.

The training introduces de-escalation techniques and the 5 D’s of bystander intervention through discussion and scenario-based practice. Participants also gain skills for responding supportively to disclosures. The workshop promotes shared responsibility for safety and community care.

 

Ending Sexual Harassment in the Workplace
This workplace training addresses sexual harassment, workplace sexual violence, and power dynamics within professional environments. Participants learn how to recognize harassment, understand reporting options, and respond to disclosures with care. The training also emphasizes boundary-setting, communication skills, and bystander intervention.

Leadership and staff gain tools to prevent harm and foster safer workplace cultures. The program supports accountability and long-term cultural change.

 

Human Trafficking 101
Human Trafficking 101 provides an overview of both sex and labor trafficking, with a focus on local and national contexts. Participants learn how trafficking occurs, common myths and misconceptions, and the tactics traffickers use.

The training highlights warning signs and vulnerabilities while emphasizing survivor-centered responses. Participants also learn how to report concerns safely and connect survivors to resources. This program builds awareness and strengthens community prevention efforts.

Trauma-Informed Care for Healthcare Professionals
This specialized training helps healthcare and wellness professionals provide trauma-informed care to survivors of sexual violence. Participants learn how trauma affects the brain and body and how re-traumatization can occur in clinical settings.

The training introduces the guiding principles of trauma-informed care and practical strategies for patient safety. Participants also learn how to recognize signs of trauma and connect survivors to resources. The training supports compassionate, effective care.

Men as Allies in Preventing Sexual Violence
This upcoming program engages men in preventing sexual violence through education and allyship. Participants explore how social norms, power, and accountability contribute to harm. The training encourages men to challenge harmful behaviors and support safer communities. It emphasizes responsibility, prevention, and collective action.

 

Online Safety for Preventing Sexual Violence
This upcoming training focuses on protecting youth in digital spaces. Participants learn about online risks, digital boundaries, and warning signs of exploitation. The program provides practical tools for promoting online safety and awareness. It supports caregivers and community members in creating safer online environments.

Youth Education Programs

Our Voice youth education programs support young people in building healthy relationships, understanding consent and boundaries, and learning how to recognize and respond to harmful behavior. Using age appropriate, interactive approaches, these trainings empower middle school, high school, and college students to promote safety, respect, and accountability among their peers.

Programs are available virtually or in person for schools, youth groups, and college settings and are grounded in trauma informed prevention practices.

Shifting Boundaries (Middle School)
Shifting Boundaries is a CDC-approved, evidence-based prevention education program designed specifically for middle school students. The program helps youth understand personal boundaries, consent, identity, and respect while exploring how power dynamics can show up in peer interactions.

Through interactive discussions, activities, and real-life scenarios, students learn to recognize unsafe behaviors and practice healthy, respectful communication. The training also helps students distinguish between teasing, bullying, flirting, and harassment in ways that are developmentally appropriate. By focusing on early adolescence, Shifting Boundaries works to establish healthy norms before harmful behaviors become normalized.

 

Consent is Everything (Middle & High School)
Consent Is Everything is a research-informed training that helps youth and young adults understand what consent truly means in everyday interactions. The program explores boundaries, communication, and mutual respect, while addressing common misconceptions about consent and control.

Participants learn to identify the difference between flirting and harassment and practice recognizing when consent is present, absent, or withdrawn. The training also introduces bystander intervention strategies so participants can safely support others. Content is adapted to be age-appropriate, making it effective for middle school, high school, and college-aged audiences.

 

SAFE (High School and College Students)
SAFE is a multi-session prevention program that helps youth understand healthy, unhealthy, and abusive relationships, including human trafficking. The training provides clear education on sex and labor trafficking, how traffickers recruit young people, and common warning signs of exploitation. Participants also learn about online safety, personal boundaries, and how power and control show up in abusive situations.

SAFE emphasizes the importance of believing survivors and knowing how to connect peers to trusted adults and resources. By focusing on both prevention and response, SAFE equips youth with practical tools to protect themselves and support others.

 

CODE RED: Preventing Drug Facilitated Sexual Assault (High School and College Students)
CODE RED is a prevention program that focuses on sexual assault involving alcohol or other substances. Participants learn how drugs and alcohol impact a person’s ability to consent and why impairment is often used to facilitate sexual violence. The training explores warning signs, common scenarios, and the role of social environments in increasing risk. Students also learn practical bystander intervention strategies to reduce harm and promote accountability.

CODE RED is especially relevant for high school and college communities navigating increased social pressure and substance use.

 

Bystander Intervention (High School and College Students)
This training empowers students to recognize potentially harmful situations and take action before harm occurs. Participants learn how sexual harassment and violence can escalate and why peers often notice risk before adults do.

The program introduces the 5 D’s of bystander intervention and provides opportunities to practice safe, realistic responses. Students also explore common barriers to intervening and how to overcome them. The training helps build confidence, responsibility, and a culture of looking out for one another.
